Train the Trainer Course! This K9 Instructor course is designed to prepare a K-9 Handler and/or K-9 Trainer to become more advanced, educated and exposed to the vast aspects of K-9 and to enhance the ability to instruct a K-9 academy course curriculum. Officers attending will focus on the role of the canine team instructor and the liability of K-9 Training involved. The course will cover all academic portions associated with K-9, as well as, conduct hands on practical instruction and experience, lectures and canine demonstrations that will be required to be a successful professional Police Trainer. All students must pass a written exam with a minimum of 85% and demonstrate 100% knowledge of practical proficiency throughout the duration of this course. Those who attend should be prepared to participate in physical activity and demonstrate proper instruction of a canine topic in the classroom and field settings. This program is designed strictly for law enforcement personnel, K9 Handlers, K9 Unit Supervisors and Military K9 personnel wishing to grow and develop the unit program.
Topics include: Evolution of Canine, Language, Theories of Learning, Applied Dog Behavior, Selection & Testing of Canine Prospects, Practical Socialization, How Dogs Learn, Canine Drive Development, Police K9 Training Equipment Application, Narcotics & Explosives Detection Disciplines, Behavioral Problems, Obedience, Decoy Development, Aggression Control, Criminal Apprehension and Bitework, K9 Police Tactics, Muzzle Implementation, Tracking, Trailing, Building Search, Area Search, Article Search, K9 SWAT Integration, Agility, Animal First Aid and CPR, Case Law, Report Writing, Records Keeping, K-9 Unit Management, K9 Instructor Responsibilities, Lesson Plans and much more. This course also provides an in depth instruction of all the course materials, lectures, discussions and hands on training that will be covered during this course. Handlers are encouraged to attend with their canine partners and we strongly encourage this concept. This course is approved by High Drive K-9 ® and meets all the important standards and certifications set by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA).
